This photo series was inspired by a photograph from Jonathan Knowles, which in turn was inspired by the excellent TV series “Mad Men”. I think in that image, the drink is also lit from the front, but I decided to use only backlighting and translucent objects with color.
- I believe I achieved the silhouette quite well with only a hint of light on the person (which I like).
- With the translucent bottles and glasses, I should have tested the lighting a bit more to achieve the desired result.
For the skull image, I used a Crystal Head vodka bottle filled with water and red alcoholic ink. The skull looks really good in backlight. Especially in this image the back of the skull shows the flashes. I should have left more space between the flashes and the diffusion, and perhaps added another layer of diffusion.
